Everything filmmakers and critics ask about commissioning and writing paid film reviews on CriticBridge.
CriticBridge is a professional platform that connects independent filmmakers with verified Rotten Tomatoes-approved and Tomatometer-approved critics. Filmmakers pay CriticBridge for the service of sourcing, vetting, and managing the critic network — critics are independent contractors compensated out of that fee for their time and labor to watch the screener and publish a review on their own outlet. Payment is never tied to a specific opinion, score, or rating, and editorial independence is contractually required.
Structurally, completely. Filmmakers pay CriticBridge — not the critics directly — for the service of sourcing and managing a network of verified Rotten Tomatoes-approved critics. We compensate critics out of that service fee for their time and labor: watching the screener, writing the review, and publishing it on their own outlet. Critics are independent contractors and are contractually forbidden from coordinating their opinion with us or with the filmmaker. Reviews can be — and often are — negative or mixed, and the critic gets paid the same regardless. This is the same labor-compensation model that PR firms and outlet editors have used with freelance critics for decades.
Create an account and select the "Filmmaker" role during registration. Once logged in, you can create a film listing by providing your film details, screener link, poster, and press kit. Pick the critic tier (Reach, Press, or Prestige), set your review count and deadline, then complete payment via Stripe. Your listing goes live immediately and critics at or above the selected tier can begin claiming reviews.
Rotten Tomatoes-approved critics are automatically accepted upon verification. We also welcome established critics and content creators with a significant following who can demonstrate a track record of quality film coverage. During registration, select the "Critic" role, then submit your application with your media outlet, profile URL, bio, and links to sample reviews. Our admin team will review your application and verify your credentials before granting access.
There is a small listing fee of $10 for short films (under 45 minutes) or $15 for feature-length films. On top of that, you choose a critic tier — Reach ($35/review), Press ($65/review), or Prestige ($85/review + $10/review publicist coordination fee) — and decide how many reviews you need (1–25). A 15% platform fee is deducted from critic payouts; filmmakers pay exactly what they see at checkout.
Some critics offer optional paid service add-ons — extra deliverables like a video review, social media post, or podcast mention — that you can purchase alongside a review. Each critic sets their own price, and a 10% platform fee is included in the total you see at checkout. You can add these when you accept a critic from your Interested Critics list, or anytime after a critic has claimed your film, directly from the critic's profile. Add-ons are optional and never required.
Any reviews that haven't been fulfilled by the deadline will be refunded to your account. This excludes the listing fee and the rush fee, as those are non-refundable.
The timeline for receiving a review varies depending on the critic and your set deadline. Adding the rush feature will incentivize critics to review your film sooner by placing it at the top of the list and notifying all qualifying critics.
Reviews from critics do not guarantee positive outcomes. All reviews reflect the critic's honest, independent opinion. Critics are paid for their time and effort to review and publish their articles about your film — not for favorable coverage. Editorial independence is a core principle of the platform.
CriticBridge is not affiliated with Rotten Tomatoes in any way. The critics on our platform hold RT-approved status as a professional credential, but we have no control or affiliation over what Rotten Tomatoes publishes on their site. Because of that, we're not able to provide support for getting reviews placed on third parties we have no affiliation with.
When listing a film with the rush feature, your film is placed at the top of the list and all qualifying critics are notified immediately, helping your film meet its deadline. The rush fee is $10 and is automatically applied when your review deadline is 14 days or less.
Yes, you can edit the deadline of your listing. If the updated deadline falls within two weeks, a rush fee will be added automatically to ensure your film gets the attention it needs.
Please allow 7 to 10 business days to receive any refund back to your account or PayPal.
Once a critic submits their published review URL and the filmmaker verifies it, the critic's net pay is added to their available balance. Critics request a withdrawal from their earnings page whenever they're ready. Standard payouts go out once a week on Mondays via PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle. Need it the same day? Add the $3 same-day express option at withdrawal and the funds are sent the same business day instead of the next Monday batch.
Standard payouts are sent every Monday. Any withdrawal request submitted by 11:59 PM ET on Sunday is included in that Monday's batch — requests after that roll into the following Monday. Same-day express ($3 fee) is sent the same business day if requested before 3 PM ET; later requests go out the next business morning. The $3 fee is deducted from the gross amount you request.
All critics agree to an NDA clause in our Terms & Conditions as part of their approval process. CriticBridge is not responsible for any leaks; however, we will permanently ban the critic from our platform and pursue potential legal action depending on the severity of the case. If you suspect your film has been leaked by a critic, please contact our support team through the Support page.
Screener links and passwords are only shared with critics who have claimed your film for review. All critics have agreed to NDA terms upon registration, and access to screener details is restricted within the platform.
